KidsTLC’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) in Olathe provides intensive, trauma‑informed
residential care for children and adolescents ages 6–18 from across Kansas. Many youth served have experienced
complex trauma, disrupted attachments and serious emotional or behavioral challenges, and require a safe,
structured environment to begin healing. The facility operates on a campus with secured cottages and therapeutic
spaces designed to feel homelike rather than institutional, giving residents a sense of safety and belonging.
Treatment is grounded in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and other relational modalities that help children
form healthy attachments and regulate their emotions Staff partner with each child to
identify strengths, build resilience and teach skills for coping with trauma.
Comprehensive services include psychiatric evaluations, 24‑hour nursing care, medication management and
individualized therapy. Children receive individual, group and family therapy sessions each week; case managers
coordinate care and collaborate with schools, courts and community providers to ensure seamless support The
program emphasizes educational continuity, with certified teachers helping youth maintain academic progress
and develop learning strategies. Therapeutic activities such as art, music, yoga and recreation allow children to
express themselves and practice self‑regulation. Parents and caregivers are viewed as partners, not visitors:
they participate in weekly family sessions, learn trauma‑informed parenting techniques and help craft discharge
plans that will support a youth’s transition home
