NFI Evolutions 1 & 2 – Intensive Residential Treatment Program

Company Description

NFI Evolutions is a statewide Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) located in Westborough, Massachusetts, serving youth ages 13–18 who are navigating serious emotional disturbance, trauma histories, or other significant mental health needs. The program is designed for adolescents who require a highly structured, 24/7 therapeutic setting to stabilize, build coping skills, and prepare for a successful return to their home community.

Evolutions emphasizes strengths-based and practical skill building. Treatment is intended to help teens recognize triggers, manage overwhelming emotional states, and respond to trauma reactivity and mental health symptoms with healthier strategies. Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team that may include child psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, clinicians/therapists, direct-care counselors, and peer- and family-support roles.

A key feature of Evolutions is its structured therapeutic milieu paired with an educational day program. With in-house educators as part of the team, adolescents can continue academic engagement while working on clinical goals, behavioral stabilization, and interpersonal skills. This integrated approach can be especially helpful for families who want treatment and school support to move forward together rather than in separate silos.

Family involvement is woven into the model. The program works with youth and caregivers to practice skills that can transfer from residential life back to everyday routines at home and in the community. With an average length of stay of about seven months, families are encouraged to learn about the referral process, programming, and expectations directly from the provider to determine whether Evolutions is an appropriate fit for their teen.
