The Pathway Home

Company Description

The Pathway Home is Southcentral Foundation’s long‑term residential program for adolescents

“aged 13–18 who struggle with serious mental and behavioral health challenges. Located in Anchorage,

“Alaska, the program invites youth from around the state and beyond to live in a safe, comfortable and

“nurturing campus where healing is grounded in Alaska Native values and a holistic view of health.

“Participation is voluntary, and youth commit to a comprehensive, individualized treatment experience that

“addresses the mind, body, spirit and cultural identity A multidisciplinary team of clinicians, case

“managers, social workers, counselors and personal care givers work together to help residents improve

“their mental and behavioral health, physical health and academic or vocational skills. The program

“encourages youth to develop healthy coping skills, regulate moods, form supportive relationships and

“begin a journey toward independence and leadership within their communities

“Youth at The Pathway Home participate in individual, group and educational therapy sessions, learning

“healthier ways to manage their behavior, handle conflict and anger and resolve trauma. Trauma‑informed

“care is woven through the program, and residents benefit from on‑site nursing care, medication

“management, child wellness checks and even dental care Recreational therapy and substance

“use counseling complement the clinical work, while activities like art, music, sports and cultural

“events foster confidence and connection. Treatment is highly individualized; case managers help youth

“set goals, monitor progress and adjust plans as needed, and family members are encouraged to participate

“in therapy and visit whenever possible.

“An important part of The Pathway Home is cultural enrichment. Alaska Native arts and crafts, traditional

“games, drumming, dancing and other cultural practices are offered so youth can reconnect with their

“heritage and develop a stronger sense of identity and belonging Outdoor recreation — such as

“hiking, fishing, berry picking and camping — teaches healthy ways to spend time and highlights the

“healing power of nature. The program’s environment emphasises comfort and respect: residents live in a

“home‑like setting, share meals and chores, and celebrate successes together.

“The Pathway Home is designed to last, on average, about one year. Throughout that time, youth learn to

“rebuild trust, develop resilience and practice new skills that will help them transition back to their

“families and communities. Because many participants come from remote villages, the staff work closely

“with families and tribal leaders to ensure that aftercare plans are in place and that progress continues

“when youth return home. For families seeking a culturally responsive residential treatment program that

“combines trauma‑informed therapy, recreation and academic support, The Pathway Home offers a unique

“opportunity for young people to find healing and hope
