Marillac’s roots date back to 1897 when the Daughters of Charity accepted ten-year-old Johnny Ryan as the first child to live at the Kansas City Orphan Boys’ Home. Over the years, social and cultural changes reduced the need for orphanages in the community. A new challenge of providing for the special educational needs of boys and girls with learning disabilities became the home’s primary mission.
