Company Description

KidsPeace’s Graham Lake Residential Campus sits on 12 serene acres along the water in Ellsworth, Maine and provides a highly structured, 24/7 therapeutic environment for youth with complex behavioral health needs. The campus houses two distinct programs: an Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) program serving boys and girls ages 8–20 with developmental disabilities and an intensive therapeutic residential program for youth with severe emotional or behavioral challenges. Both programs offer a secure setting that balances safety with opportunities for independence and social growth. The ASD program focuses on helping residents develop daily living, social and communication skills through a combination of applied behavior analysis (ABA), speech and occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing care and special educationhttps://www.kidspeace.org/me-residential/#:~:text=Maine%20Residentialhttps://www.kidspeace.org/me-residential/#:~:text=The%20Autism%20Spectrum%20Disorders%20,contained%20residential%20setting.

Licensed clinicians provide individual, family and group therapy using evidence‑based modalities to help residents manage symptoms, improve relationships and build self‑esteem. Each youth receives a personalized service plan that may include medication management, psycho‑educational counseling, ABA support and case management. On‑site nursing staff ensure medical stability, while psychological and psychiatric services coordinate diagnostic evaluations and ongoing treatment. The program emphasises teaching appropriate behavior and self‑control through positive reinforcement and clear expectations, preparing residents to transition to less restrictive environments.

Education is a core component of the Graham Lake Campus. The on‑campus school allows residents to continue their studies in small classrooms staffed by certified teachers who tailor instruction to individual learning styles and academic levels. Life‑skills training and vocational opportunities, such as gardening, cooking and facility maintenance, provide practical experiences that foster independence and self‑efficacy. Recreation therapists lead structured activities ranging from arts and crafts to outdoor adventures on the campus’s trails and waterfront, promoting physical health and teamwork. Residents live in supervised dormitories with communal living spaces where they practice daily routines such as meal preparation, chores and conflict resolution.

Family involvement is strongly encouraged at KidsPeace. Parents and caregivers participate in regular therapy sessions, educational meetings and campus visits to stay engaged in their child’s progress. The program offers support groups and training to help families understand developmental disabilities and mental health disorders and to prepare for reunification. Discharge planning includes coordination with community providers, schools and social services to ensure continuity of care. Through its multidisciplinary team, peaceful setting and comprehensive services, the Graham Lake Residential Campus strives to help youth reach their highest potential and return to their communities with the skills needed to thrive.
